George Spector was introduced to fishing by way of his maternal grandfather who took him fishing while George was growing up in Japan. The mountainous regions of Japan are home to many native species of char and salmon. Fly fishing for native char species, such as the "yamame," is very popular and enjoys a rich and storied history. George moved to the United States to attend college at the age of 18. During college, George fished extensively throughout New York State, namely the tributaries of Lake Ontario, which received annual runs of salmon and steelhead. Today, he makes his home in New York, where he is not far from the legendary rivers of the Catskill Mountains. He makes trips to his favorite river, the Delaware River, as often as he can. He is also makes frequent trips in the summer months to the Gaspe Bay region of eastern Canada to fish for Atlantic salmon. He is a member in good standing with some of the most prestigious camps in the region. He currently holds membership in Horse Island Camp on the Grand Cascapedia. George also fishes the Restigouche River in New Brunswick in May for a chance at a large bright Atlantic salmon because May gives the best opportunity to latch onto to some of the largest salmon of the year.George was introduced to Scott Rods during the 1970s in Japan where he began to utilize them for their superior action and craftsmanship. Scott was a highly regarded manufacturer by all fly fishermen in Japan and has maintained that reputation today.
In 1997, George received the status of Master Fly Casting Instructor from the Federation of Fly Fishers. He is the author of the book, "The Delaware River."
