Toby, was born into the mad clutches of a fly fishing
family, on the banks of a well known chalk stream in southern England, his
earliest memories are of cutting weeds with his Grandfather and casting dry
flies to wild brown trout. Fly fishing
was in Toby’s blood and so it was almost inevitable that he refused to get out
of the water, turned his back on "a proper job” and dedicated an unhealthy
amount of time to chasing fish across the globe.
At the age of 7 Toby’s father’s work took his family
overseas giving him, and his two older brothers the opportunity to target new
and exciting species on the fly in the seas, rivers and lakes of Mozambique,
Mauritius, South Africa, India, Canada, Angola and the U.S. At 17 Toby
completed his AAPGAI casting certification.
After graduating from University Toby continued to travel,
work and fish, before settling in Canada in 2005 and began guiding in BC,
N.W.T, Saskatchewan, Quebec and N.B.
For the past 8 yrs Toby has guided on the legendary
Restigouche, Sustut, Skeena and Nass Rivers out of the Restigouche River Lodge
and Steelhead Valhalla Lodge. When Toby isn’t guiding he can be found skating
flies for sea run fish and hunting Musky on the Ottawa River with his son Noah.
Toby has and continues to contribute to The Drake Magazine and other fishing
publications.
Toby has long been a fan of Scott fly rods but has been
blown away by the introduction of the Radian, especially the R1008/4 the
perfect stick for single handed spey casting for big bright fish!
